YE 2020

“Someone I once loved gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this, too, was a gift.”

-Mary Oliver

2020 is nearing an end, and as we approach the light at the end of the tunnel (Hallelujah - a vaccine!) there are still uncertainties looming. COVID-19 cases continue to rise, children remain in distance learning programs, mental health is waning, Americans are divided, small businesses struggle, and the “quarantined” holidays are upon us. The hits keep coming and the silver-linings are becoming more difficult to uncover. But, in this moment, we have to remind ourselves that 2020 opened a stream of dormant creativity in our culture. This creativity has fueled our resilience and our ability to continue to move forward in the darkest of times.

Living and working in a small, bedroom community of Seattle, we are lucky to have built a network of like-minded business owners. These relationships, often times friendships, have acted as sounding boards, confidants, and motivators over the years. In the wake of COVID, these relationships became so much more than a network, we leaned on each other for information, provided encouragement, listened to ideas, and became each other’s inspiration to stay afloat. We will forever be grateful to the community that surrounds us. As a way to show continue support and to pay respect to these individuals, we wanted to share their stories of the past year, alongside our own reflection. With that, I’d like to invite you to enjoy a sampling of how some of Bainbridge Island’s best and brightest were able to get through and overcome obstacles in 2020.

SEE YOU, IN 2021

To be frank, 2020 was shit. It was shit in so many ways, but we are hopeful each of us experienced or learned something this year that will carry us forward. If we can dig a little deeper, lean on those around us, and harness creativity, even the darkest times present an opportunity to become better.

We are extremely grateful for the team at Blackmouth Design, for our amazing clients, for our island community, and of course our families. Blackmouth would not have survived 2020 without the support we received from each of you.

We wish you a beautiful holiday season and more importantly a healthy and prosperous 2021.

Best Wishes,
Blackmouth Design
