The Origin of Blackmouth Design

Blackmouth Design is the brainchild of Rich Batcheller. Founded in 2013, he was motivated to start a design and fabrication company because he perceived a gap in the agency model and wanted to tackle unconventional projects for innovative clients. His vision, an agency with the capacity to design out of a corner and a “nothing is too complicated” attitude. Blackmouth aims to push the envelope and find solutions to make our clients' vision a reality.

A little bit about the name.

Blackmouth, a common nickname given to Chinook salmon, is a term that stuck with the founder since the moment he caught his first. You see, at his core, Rich is fishy. Maybe not the fishiest guy in his circle, but nonetheless, Rich is fishy. His personal and professional ideologies have been curated through the lens of fishing and his connection to the river. It’s in this space, he feels inspired, it’s where he hones his creativity, and it’s where he comes back to center.

When Rich opened Blackmouth Design, his goal was to create a company and culture that mirrored the space and feeling of being on a river. The obvious place to start was the name. While Blackmouth speaks to Rich’s passion for both the river and fly fishing, it also speaks to what you can expect from the company as a whole, an organization committed to the experience. Much like fly fishing, it’s about the long game, with the goal of delivering quality and meaningful work. At Blackmouth Design, the relationship will always come first.
